Our topic for this Wilber meetup was suggested by new member Vicky who works with charter schools. I know nothing about childhood education, but in the last month I've noticed a couple things.

--An article in Shambala Buddhist magazine about the Dalai Lama's approach to education started with this quote, "Good citizen, good worker, good person. Three modes of being, three modes of education."

--A piece in the Post saying the best way to teach reading comprehension, after a basic level of reasoning ability has been achieved, is by teaching subject matter knowledge. (!)

--A piece in Parenting magazine saying that of the five modes of preschool, they all get equally good results if teachers are highly dedicated and attentive to students

--A piece in WSJ about Finnish students who return from studying in the US saying "Americans have no respect for education."

Well, something in there ought to be enough to start a discussion. See y'all Tuesday at the coffee shop of the Hotel Harrington on 11th at E NW
